Fishtail gives young gun a chance

Having started the team’s 200th race in the V8 Ute Series at the Sandown 500 Round and recording the team’s best ever round finish with a race win and finishing equal 1st on points, Jesus Racing’s Andrew “Fishtail” Fisher has chosen to step aside from driving duties in the V8 Ute Championship allowing Karting gun Aaron Borg to take the wheel for the biggest race of the year at Mt Panorama, Bathurst.

Fishtail will still be at Bathurst racing the teams iconic Ford Falcon XYGT as part of the Touring Car Masters series.

Fisher said “it felt like the right timing, we have tuned the ute up and it now has the pace to run at the front which is a great testament to the hard work the team has put in. Team mechanics Dave Oppert and Marc Waddell should be congratulated. We have been working with Aaron for a number of years, he is a great driver so it made sense to give him the opportunity.

Unfortunately we are still struggling to get the speed out of the XYGT so concentrating on one car over the weekend will hopefully pay dividends for the future.”

While Borg had his first race in the V8 Ute Series in a second Jesus Racing ute at Darwin last year, it will be his first time driving at the iconic Mt Panorama circuit in Bathurst and this is a challenge he looks forward to.

“Bathurst is the one track that any driver wants to be able to race at and I can’t thank Andrew and the Jesus Racing Team enough for this opportunity,” said Borg. “It’s going to be the biggest challenge I’ve had so far and I’m looking forward to getting out there on Thursday!”

The team head to Oberon on the way to Bathurst for a School visit on Tuesday morning as part of the Life Choices program and then onto Bathurst Wednesday morning to setup and get both cars ready, before they take to the track on Thursday.
