Jesus Racing Lives to Fight another Day
Jesus Racing had a trying day of racing down at Phillip Island recording a 7th place finish in race 1 before having to retire in race 2 due to an oil gauge fault.
Andrew Fisher continued the team’s regained form in qualifying and got off to a great start in the opening race of the weekend, moving the Jesus Racing XY GTHO into 5th position. The car had developed a handling issue from the start but Fisher still managed to hold onto 5th until a safety car was called on lap 3. After several laps under safety car, the field was sent green for a last lap dash to the finish. With the Jesus Racing Falcon struggling for front end grip, Fisher put up a good fight but ultimately lost 2 spots bringing it home in 7th position.
Afterwards the team ran thorough inspections on the car and found a bracket holding the leaf spring in place was binding up and causing the handling problems.
With this fixed, Fisher went out for race 2 looking to make up a few spots through the 10-lap encounter. Getting off to a decent start, he held down 7th position for the first 2 laps but as the race went on he would drop back another 2 spots. On lap 7 Fisher noticed a fluctuation in the oil pressure gauge and after the recent engine problems the team had experienced decided to pull over and out of the race. Upon further inspection the team found that the problem was not actually in the oil pressure but in the gauge itself, as the incorrect placing of it caused the gauge to give a lower than actual reading when it was hot.
“After all the problems we’ve had this year I thought it was best to be on the safe side and pull over when I saw the oil pressure drop dramatically,” said Fisher. “Fortunately there was no issue with the engine at all and with the issue fixed we’re looking forward to getting out there and having one last crack at it tomorrow!”
The team have now fixed this issue and will be looking to make amends when they hit the track for the final race of the year tomorrow at 12:30. You can keep up to date with all the results on the Jesus Racing Team facebook page.
