Jesus Racing Surges Forward
After making a lot of overnight changes, the Jesus Racing team were keen to see what improvements they had made from yesterday’s practice sessions, however this all changed when they were greeted with a wet Sandown track this morning.
Having no data in wet conditions with the improved XY GTHO, the team were going into the unknown again as they needed to set the car up for these different conditions.
Unfortunately, the team chose the wrong tyre pressures as the track dried up making the iconic Ford virtually un-drivable and Andrew “Fishtail” Fisher did a great job to post the 11th fastest time.
The track dried ahead of the opening race and the team were able to put their new dry setup back in the car and this made a big improvement. Fisher got off to a lightning start and after getting through a bit of traffic at turn 1 managed to move the Jesus Ford from 11th on the grid into 6th position! A lap later one of the Torana SL/R’s was able to get past Fisher down the straight dropping the team to 7th where they would stay for the remainder of the race.
“The team did a great job in making the car more compliant from yesterday,” said Fisher. “It’s still lacking a bit of pace and not as sharp as we would like but we’re happy to bank the points! We are still learning how to get the most out of the improved car so we will make some more changes overnight and look to move forward again tomorrow.”
With the weather looking to be clear tomorrow the team will be aiming to learn even more and move up the grid at the same time. The final two races will be held at 11:40am and 4:25pm, and you can watch them live at http://www.thenationals.com.au/index.php?page=nationals-tv
