After such a long time for Abigail sidelined in the workshop waiting for the new engine and after a test session that didn’t go to plan with a major electrical failure that almost put an end to the first race event before it started, the Jesus Racing team travelled to Tassie to turn a wheel in anger at Round 1 of the 2021 Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters Championship.
With very little running under their belt track time was the biggest focus and in session 1 Andrew punched out 14 laps in the 20 minutes with his fastest lap being on the last lap. As in years gone by TCM want the most out of the weekend and so they sacrifice a practice session to have 4 races instead of 3.
So the second session out on track for Andrew was qualifying where he found another second in the car to qualify just out of the top ten and with the cars being so tight, only another 0.4 of a second would have seen Abigail in position 6.
“It’s great to be back in Abigail even if she is still misbehaving a little, perhaps we should refer to her as our wild child….Andrew remarked, “it’s such a privilege to display the name of Jesus in the paddock again. The good news is the engine appears to be strong and running without fault, we just need to find the sweet spot in terms of set up so I can get the best out of her. God willing, we can pick a few off in tomorrow’s racing.”
