1st in class
Day 3 saw two races scheduled. Fishtail started off from P3 in Race 2 of the weekend and after a hard fought battle amongst the top 5 cars through turn 1 and 2 he was able to hold onto his 3rd position. He then put his head down and ran with the two front runners who are also the two leaders of the championship. Fishtail almost got past Bowe into turn 2 but Bowe shut the door pretty hard forcing Fishtail to pull back behind. On about lap 8 Andrew’s tyres started to go away again and he fell back from the leaders but had a significant gap to the 4th placed car of Meidecke.
Race 3 started a couple hours after the end of Race 2 and Fishtail once again started from 3rd. He got a good start and managed to hold his position into turn 2. Having learnt from the past couple of races Andrew put his head down and was able to apply significant pressure to the rear of Hansford however on lap 3 there was a huge crash and the race was red flagged.
Fortunately both drivers from the crash were ok but the race director decided to not restart the race calling it a ‘non event’.
Commenting on the weekend Andrew said “it was a great weekend for the team, we were the third fastest car on track, getting the fastest sectors in a couple of races and breaking the lap record as well. Coming 1st in the Pro-Am class and 3rd outright is a great result considering I had never driven the car before this weekend.”
Andrew and Annie now head to Cairns to start a two week Gaols and High Schools tour which will see them visit 6 correctional centres and 10 High Schools.
